It is believed that one of the benefits of dog ownership is that it helps to prevent heart disease and can lower blood pressure. Dog owners are more likely to go walking, running, and hiking with their dogs on a regular basis and therefore tend to get more exercise than people without a dog. Dog ownership can also help to fight depression and reduce stress. Owning a dog adds joy to you and your pup’s lives. 
Interestingly, since 2006 dog ownership has increased among single people by 16.6% : 27.7% among single men and 22% among single women. Further, six-out-of-ten pet owners, or 63.2%, consider their pets to be family members*.
